Teaching Jewish studies

Prof. Yehuda Bar Shalom is a teacher and researcher with 26 years of experience in education in formal and informal settings both in Israel and the Diaspora. Author of the book Educating Israel (Palgrave McMillan, 2006), Prof. Bar Shalom lectures at the David Yellin Academic College of Education, the overseas school at Tel Aviv University and teaches at the Givat Gonen School in Jerusalem.​

Dr Kanarek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Management from Bar Ilan University, Master’s degrees in Jewish Education from Touro College and from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a PhD in Jewish Education from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His dissertation was on teaching Talmud through Cognitive Maps.

​Dr. Perlmutter holds a PhD from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She is the Head of Holocaust studies, Academic Coordinator of History teaching in 44 schools in the former USSR. Since 2000 she is in charge of “Masa Shorashim” – Roots seeking Voyage to Jewish culture and history of these schools.

Dr Raviv holds a Master’s and PhD degrees in Talmudic Studies from Bar Ilan University. His dissertation focused on the connection between the Midrash and the Mishna. His fields of expertise and teaching include the Tanach, Talmud and Jewish Philosophy. He deals with integrating both the academic fields of Jewish Studies and Education. He teaches at the Orot Israel College in Elkana and in the past he served as Chairman of the Department of Jewish Philosophy and the Head of Education Studies.​

Dr Walfish holds a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Yeshiva University, and a Master’s and PhD degrees in Talmudic Literature from Hebrew University. His dissertation focused on Literary Phenomena in Mishnah and their conceptual significance.
He received semicha from Rabbi Zalman Nehemiah Goldberg, and has taught in many institutions of Jewish learning, including Drisha, Pardes, and Matan. Currently he teaches at Herzog College in Alon Shvut, at Bar-Ilan University, and at the Hesder Yeshiva in Tekoah.

Dr Walfhish holds PhD in Jewish Education from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She is a senior lecturer in Tanakh and head of the Tanakh department at Efrata Teacher`s College in Jerusalem. She taught Tanakh for many years in Israeli high schools, and was a pedagogical tutor of Tanakh in Efrata College. She has written online courses in the study of Tanakh for Efrata students. She has lectured at various seminars on Tanakh, both in Israel and in the United States, and has published articles on various aspects of the Tanakh and its pedagogy. She serves on the editorial board of the Jewish Bible Quarterly, a journal published in Jerusalem dedicated to Tanakh studies.
